Immigration Physicals

Immigration physicals

After you have been assigned an interview date, you can pass a medical examination. The international organization for migration (IOM) is the only center in Russia that can be examined. The medical examination takes place directly at the MTZ Medical center.

You must arrive at the IOM on the appointed day and time. At the entrance, you will be given a questionnaire to fill out. In addition to your personal data, you will need to specify your US address and case number. Don’t forget to bring your card statement, passport, and one color photo. Men need a military ID. Then you will be photographed, given a test tube for analysis and a disk for recording fluorography. You, in turn, pay the fee for the medical examination. For an adult it is$ 200, for a child – $ 190 (payment in dollars and cash).

Important point! If you do not have a passport on your hands on the day of the medical examination, you must arrive at the IOM in advance. There you will be photocopied and stamped. With these photocopies, you will need to come for a medical examination.
You need to come to the medical examination on an empty stomach, as you will be taking a blood test. This applies to both adults and children.
At the IOM, you will receive a referral to undergo a medical examination at the MTZ Medical center. There you will need to pass a urine test (the container will be issued on the spot), do a fluorography and donate blood from a vein. In Belarus, the fluorography image is valid for a year, but this image will not be suitable for the medical Board, even if it is still in time! The x-ray will need to be done again, as there are different requirements for the image in America. Then you will be directed to the office of a therapist who will tell you about the vaccinations.
In order to get a green Card, you must have 12 vaccinations. But do not worry, half of these vaccinations you already have from childhood or from school. You may not have the other half of the vaccinations, but you don’t need to do them either, since they are only given up to a certain age. And a very small number of vaccinations will have to be done if you do not have them.Immigration physicals

Thus, if you are over 18 years old but under 66, you are required to have the following vaccinations:

  1. Td/Tdap (diphtheria-tetanus)
  2. MMR (measles-rubella-mumps)
  3. Influenza (flu)
  4. Varicella (chicken pox)

More information about each vaccination:

Td/Tdap (diphtheria-tetanus, or abbreviated ADSM). This vaccination is given at 6, 16, and every subsequent 10 years until 66. That is, if you have not been vaccinated against diphtheria and tetanus in the last 10 years, you will need to be vaccinated.

MMR (measles-rubella-mumps, or CCP for short). Measles vaccination is done at 12 months and 6 years. If you do not have enough vaccinations in your card statement, you will need to get one.

Influenza – vaccination against the flu. If your immigration process takes place during the flu season, you will need to be vaccinated. It is put to everyone, starting from the age of 6 months.

Varicella (chicken pox). Vaccination is only done if you have not had chickenpox as a child. Do not forget to specify this when issuing a vaccination certificate.

It is recommended to vaccinate PDA and ADSM on the same day, since after PDA you can not do other vaccinations for another 4 weeks. In Minsk, you can get vaccinated at the city vaccination center
There are also a number of infectious diseases that prevent successful medical examination. These include:

  • Tuberculosis
  • Syphilis
  • Gonorrhea
  • Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy)
  • Cholera
  • Diphtheria
  • Plague
  • Smallpox
  • Yellow fever
  • Pandemic influenza
  • Viral hemorrhagic fever
  • Polio
  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome

After successfully passing the medical examination, expect results. They can be picked up at the IOM in a week. You will be given a sealed yellow envelope to hand over to the Consul for an interview.
